Thoughts on Family: Nymphadora loves her mother and father, but is not too fond of her other relations. One of her 'fears', actually, is becoming a stereotypical 'Black', the name soiled by Bellatrix and Narcissa.

Personal History: Nymphadora Tonks was born in London, England on May 12th, 1973, to a muggle-born wizard and to the disowned daughter the most prestigious wizarding families, the Blacks. Even though she does have the same genetics as the Blacks, after her mother was disowned for marrying a muggle-born wizard the Black’s cut off all ties with her mother and her family. Which does not seem to have an effect on Tonks at all.

Her mother, Andromeda Black Tonks is a very smart, capable woman with a mind of her own. Her only fault, by Tonks standards, is having named her Nymphadora, which is why she prefers the name Tonks. Her father on the other hand, Ted Tonks is a very unorganized wizard who isn’t known for keeping things even somewhat clean.

In 1984, she started her first year at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft & Wizardry, where she was sorted into the Gryffindor house. She is a bit of a troublemaker, which is why she never became a prefect, but she is very smart. Upon graduating, she was immediately accepted into Auror training, which is highly unusual. In training, she had one basic a advantage over all of her peers and this was the fact that she is a Metamorphmagus, which means that ‘blending in and disguises’ are not an issue.

In 1994, she graduated from her training and began to work for the Ministry of Magical helping to seek out and arrest dark wizards. As trouble brewed within the ever-continuous battle between good and evil, Dumbledore invited her to join the Order of the Pheonix, which she gracefully accepted. As although that tasks are in no way easy, she has a strong belief system, especially between what’s right and what’s wrong.

As part of an even smaller group of the OotP, the Advanced Guard, she had helped to move Harry Potter between many accommodations. After, she accompanied Alastor Moody, Sirius Black, Remus Lupin, and Kingsley Shacklebolt in fighting the Death Eaters, though she became injured in the process and fell unconscious. Moody tried to revive her, but she remained unconscious and was taken to St. Mungo's Hospital, after the fight with Lord Voldemort.

Once she was in better health, she accompanied Harry back to the Dursley’s, where she along with Alastor Moody and Remus Lupin reminded the Dursley’s of exactly why they should be kind to Harry while he was there.

Since, she has been continuing to reside in London, though between the trips to 12 Grimmauld Place and Hogwarts, she has barely spent a night in her own bed.

Tonks paced the halls of 12 Grimmauld Place, waiting for Sirius and Remus to return. The Order of the Phoenix had been reinstated recently with the threat on the young Potter boy's life, and she had willingly jumped at the opportunity. However, the other members, particularly the two that were temporarily absent, seemed rather fond of leaving her behind.
Suddenly, there was a gust of air as Sirius, Remus, and Harry apparated in. Frowning, Nymphadora placed her hands on her hips. "Where the bloody hell were you?" she inquired. "I've been waiting all day." Remus tossed a glance at Sirius and grimaced. "We were just out on business."

Nymphadora Tonks is a Metamorphmagus, an Auror and a member of the Order of the Phoenix. She is described as having "...a pale heart-shaped face, dark twinkling eyes, and short spiky hair that was a violent shade of violet." Rowling also adds a comical side to Tonks's character: she is notoriously clumsy and unskilled at household spells, like cooking, cleaning, and setting the table, and frequently breaks things and trips. She despises her given name and prefers to be called by her surname alone.

Tonks is an only child. Her mother is Andromeda Black, favorite cousin of Sirius Black and sister to Narcissa Malfoy and Bellatrix Lestrange (both née Black). She is therefore Draco Malfoy's first cousin. Andromeda's family, however, disowned her after she married Muggle-born wizard Ted Tonks, meaning that Nymphadora has had little contact with her extended family.

Nymphadora studied at Hogwarts and was sorted into Hufflepuff. The character later mentions that she left Hogwarts and began three years of Auror training. As a Metamorphmagus, she barely had to study for her Concealment and Disguise exam but had difficulty with Stealth and Tracking due to her clumsiness. Nevertheless, she qualifies as an Auror one year before her first appearance in the Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix.

Tonks is introduced early as a member of the Order in the fifth book. At the time, she, and senior Auror Kingsley Shacklebolt, were acting as spies for the Order at the Ministry. She helps to escort Harry first from the Dursleys' house to Order headquarters, and later to the Hogwarts Express. Tonks later fights the Death Eaters at the Department of Mysteries, in which she was injured by her aunt, Bellatrix Lestrange, and had to be taken to St Mungo's hospital.

During Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, Tonks is stationed at Hogsmeade and assigned to guard Hogwarts. Harry observes she is constantly depressed, rarely smiling or acting friendly. Her hair, normally a vibrant pink, was always a mousy brown colour, her abilities as a Metamorphmagus were also disturbed, and her Patronus changed some time after the battle from its original form to a large, silvery, four-legged animal. Such changes were held to be evidence of extreme shock or strong emotions. However, after Albus Dumbledore's death, it is revealed that Tonks had fallen in love with Remus Lupin, and her patronus had, as a result of this, changed to the form of a werewolf - a creature that Remus turned into every full moon. When he was reluctant to return her affections (believing that he was too old, too poor and it was too dangerous for her to be involved with a werewolf), her depression muted her magical abilities. At Dumbledore's funeral, it appears that Tonks and Lupin were now a couple; they are seen holding hands and Tonks's hair has returned to her favoured pink, signifying that she is happy again.

Early in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Tonks accompanies twelve Order members to take Harry Potter from the Dursleys' home to The Burrow, and before they leave the Dursleys' home, she announces that she recently married Remus Lupin. She flies with Ron, who impersonates Harry using Polyjuice Potion, as a decoy to have Death Eaters thrown off the real Harry's tail. Later in the book, Remus reveals Tonks is pregnant. Remus briefly left Tonks, as he believed he had caused her to be shunned by the wizarding society due to him being a werewolf - but he soon comes to his senses and reunites with her. She gives birth to Teddy Lupin, named after Tonks's father, who had been killed before the child's birth for being Muggle-born. Remus and Tonks choose Harry to be the godfather. Teddy is also a Metamorphmagus, like Tonks, as seen by his frequent hair colour changes right after birth. When Harry returns to Hogwarts in search of the Ravenclaw relic that Lord Voldemort had turned into a Horcrux, both Tonks and Lupin arrive along with other members of the Order of the Phoenix and Dumbledore's Army. When the Death Eaters attack Hogwarts to get Harry, both of them join the others to hold off the Death Eaters in order to buy Harry time to find and destroy the Horcrux. During the Battle of Hogwarts, Tonks is killed by Bellatrix, and Lupin is killed by Dolohov, leaving Teddy an orphan left in the care of Tonks's mother Andromeda.
